Washington Apple Country

Cashmere started out as "Mission" in 1873, named for the log church built by the Catholic missionary Father Grassi. In 1904 a name change was necessary because there was another "Mission" in Washington State, and the post offices kept getting the mail mixed up! Judge James H. Chase suggested the name Cashmere, comparing the town's natural beauty to the Vale of Kashmir in India.

When you visit Cashmere, you are in the geographic center of Washington State, nestled in the foothills of the eastern slope of the Cascade Mountains. Surrounded by State and Federal forests, our location beckons visitors of all persuasions. Local orchards line the hills and banks of the Wenatchee River, as it winds through the valley, providing a spectacular blanket of color throughout the growing season. Blessed with 300+ days of sunshine each year, Cashmere welcomes visitors to enjoy the multitude of activities and opportunities for fun and adventure that abound in this proud community.

Cashmere is a beautiful small community nestled in the foothills of the Eastern Cascade Mountains of Central Washington. We are a proud community with a strong tradition of community support and caring. Our main industry is our fruit industry with apples, pears, cherries, peaches and many more, which surround our homes and business area and provide a spectacular blanket of color throughout the growing season, along with 300 plus days of sunshine each year. We are home to Liberty Orchards, producers of the world famous Aplets and Cotlets and many other confectionery delights. Factory tours are offered daily followed by many free samples in our wonderful Country Store. We have shops and restaurants in our small business district and many home businesses. Cashmere affords great business opportunities and is in an ideal location for growth and tourism. The Wenatchee River flows majestically through our community along with other creeks and streams, which are fed by the run off waters of the "Beautiful Snow Capped Cascade Mountains". We are surrounded by hills and mountains, which are spectacular in each of our seasons. We have great outdoor recreation advantages in our valley: snow skiing, water skiing, fishing, hiking, camping, backpacking, biking, hunting, and much more. We are an historic community with a wealth of local and regional history, which can be seen and experienced at our Pioneer Village and Historical Museum, offering wonderful tours, which are a walk, back into history. Within our community we have many parks, which provide comfortable and leisurely places to stop, ponder your thoughts and just plain relax. We have the distinct honor of being "Tree City USA", and a walking arboretum for your pleasure and enjoyment. We are only minutes away from the mighty Columbia River, which is ideal for all water sports and activities and several hydroelectric dams nearby. We are surrounded by state and federal forests and at the edge of the Central Washington desert. Just 45 miles to our north is the beautiful Lake Chelan, another area for recreation and relaxation. To our west is the Bavarian Village of Leavenworth and to the east is Wenatchee. We are approximately 2 ? hours east of Seattle, Washington, 3 hours west of Spokane, Washington, and about 4 hours from the Canadian border. We are ideally situated in the center of the State of Washington, and we are blessed with four outstanding and spectacular seasons each year, and each has its own splendor. Cashmere, Washington is a must see. We are the Gem, of the Pacific Northwest and a great place to work, run a business, live, play and above all, grow.
